What Pep Guardiola expects from Man City rematch with Tottenham Hotspur

Pep Guardiola expects another entertaining and open meeting with Tottenham Hotspur at the Etihad tomorrow.

The Blues edged a seven-goal Champions League thriller on Wednesday night, but it wasn't enough to stop them crashing out of the competition on away goals.

It was a wide open second leg as both teams chased the game at various points, with four goals in the first 11 minutes.

Despite the return to league duty this weekend Guardiola expects another end-to-end thriller, with City chasing a second successive Premier League title and Spurs determined to hold on to their top four place.

"I don’t think it will change. Both teams are going to attack," Guardiola said of the Saturday lunchtime fixture.

"Them in their way, long balls to [Fernando] Llorente, [Lucas] Moura, second balls, set pieces, the people up front, [and] we are going to attack.

"They’re an incredible top team but we are going to try.”

City's chances of an unprecedented quadruple ended with their Champions League exit in midweek.

It will give City two midweeks off when title rivals Liverpool are facing Barcelona in the Champions League semi-finals, but Guardiola doesn't believe that will help their title chances.

"No advantage at this stage. In November and December when you have more games like Liverpool went out of both cups early, we played nine or 10 more," he said.

"But now at this stage of the season, it isn’t any influence with rest. It was a fact that we didn’t have time to prepare for specific things against Tottenham, after Brighton [in the FA Cup semi-final], we played in more competitions, they had more time.

"But we played four competitions and now that’s the situation we’ve had and we’ve done it really well, I don’t have any complaints about that.”
