What Pep Guardiola and Mauricio Pochettino said to each other after Man City VAR controversy

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has revealed what he and Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said to each other after a controversial 2-2 draw at the Etihad Stadium.

Raheem Sterling opened the scoring for the Blues with a header from close range but Erik Lamela's left-footed shot from outside the box tied the contest.

Sergio Aguero put the Blues back in front but a header from substitute Lucas Moura levelled up the match late in the second half.

There was still time for plenty of drama as Gabriel Jesus scored but the goal was ruled out by VAR due to a handball from Aymeric Laporte.

Pochettino has explained that he and Guardiola spoke briefly post-match as the two even made plans to potentially have a 'proper conversation' at the City manager's restaurant in Manchester.

"After the VAR in the last moment, I saw him, he saw me and then the conversation was a few minutes talking about many different things," Pochettino told Sky Sports.

"I said that maybe we should have a proper conversation, maybe he could invite me to his restaurant in Manchester! We could have a few hours conversation about many things."

When it came to the decision itself, Pochettino joked that he loves VAR before delving deeper into the merits of the late call.

"I am in love with VAR," Pochettino joked. "I wasn’t in agreement at the beginning with it, but of course sometimes you benefit from it. We cannot stop the evolution of the technology. We need to accept we’re living in a different era, we have to accept technology is in football now. It was a benefit for us today."

On the decision itself, Pochettino added: "We were sitting and complaining about my team, how they conceded a goal, how they lost their marker in the box. Then the next minute, they checked VAR, and I had the same feeling as after the Champions League."
