What Manchester City's Pep Guardiola and Kevin De Bruyne said about goalkeeper wanted by Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest boss Martin O'Neill was spotted with head goalkeeping coach Seamus McDonagh on Monday night in Bulgaria watching on as Kosovo recorded their first ever European Championships qualification victory.

Between the sticks for the visitors was 20-year-old Manchester City goalkeeper Arijanet Muric.

The Swiss-born Kosovan has made five appearances for Pep Guardiola's side and spent the majority of last season as understudy to first-choice Ederson during the Citizen's Premier League winning campaign.

Ahead of next season, Guardiola is said to be keen to let his man leave the club on loan in a move that the ex-Barcelona boss hopes will strengthen the young international's first-team experience.

Muric is highly rated at City's Etihad Campus training ground it seems.

"He's got ice in his veins," Belgian international Kevin De Bruyne told Sky Sports after the 6ft 6in shot-stopped pulled off a penalty shoot-out winning save to deny Leicester's James Maddison in the EFL cup quarter-finals back in December.

Arijanet Muric of Manchester City celebrates following his sides victory in the penalty shoot out during the Carabao Cup Quarter Final match between Leicester City and Manchester City.

“It was an open game and in the end this guy helped us secure the semi-final.

“He made some great saves. He did what he had to do, but in the end I think it's just a beautiful moment for him.”

Guardiola, who gave Muric his City debut last season, was instantly impressed with the youngster's performance and kept faith with him throughout their EFL cup run, before demoting him back to bench for the Wembley final.

“'Aro' is so big, his reactions are so quick and he took the right decisions. It’s good experience for him," said the 48-year-old.

"He is a young guy, he is so shy. He deserve big applause.

"He’s been an important player for us to be where we are. Leicester with the penalties, he was incredible.

"We trust him, that’s why he is second keeper today. We didn’t look to buy anybody in the winter market.’
