Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira has been speaking to the media following his side's 1-0 loss to Leeds United on Tuesday night.
Leeds came out victorious thanks to a Raphinha penalty awarded in stoppage time. Marc Guehi handled the ball following Liam Cooper's header towards goal from a corner. A VAR review was needed to give the penalty and Vieira agreed that this was the correct call.
"If it was the other way I’d expect the referee to give the penalty," he admitted. "I had a chance to look at it again. I believe it was a penalty."
However, whilst the former Arsenal midfielder had no arguments with the award of the penalty, he felt the result was an unfair one.
He continued: "It is a real tough one. We created the most dangerous situations and chances. To lose the game that way is hard to take."
Christian Benteke had two excellent chances to give his side a crucial lead before Raphinha's winner, one a back post header from point blank range, where it seemed almost easier to score than miss, and another poked effort which came from a high ball forwards into the box and had Illan Meslier scrambling backwards to save.
Vieira was asked about injuries, as his side was missing a first-choice defender in Joachim Andersen but he replied: "Losing the game tonight is not about missing players. It was about us not taking our chances."
However, Leeds would argue that they missed a gilt-edged chance of their own earlier on, as Rodrigo was presented the ball by Daniel James on the edge of the six-yard-box but attempted to round the onrushing goalkeeper with his first touch, rather than take on the first-time shot. Instead, he bundled the ball wide of the near post.
