What Patrick Peterson paid a 2020 Vikings rookie in exchange for changing his number to 7

We have ourselves a big jersey number change in the NFL!

With many players considering switching digits after the league changed its rules (which ticked off Tom Brady!), legendary Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson is actually going ahead with it.

He’s going from No. 21, which he’s worn for his entire 10-year career with the Arizona Cardinals, to No. 7 with the Minnesota Vikings, whom he signed with this offseason. That No. 7 is also what he wore at LSU.

But! Nate Stanley, the quarterback the Vikes took from Iowa with a seventh-round pick in 2020, wore No. 7 last season.

That meant he had to pay up for it, and what he did in exchange for the number is lovely, per the Vikings’ site:

Peterson will donate new shoulder pads to the football program at Menomonie High School in Wisconsin, which is Stanley’s alma mater, in exchange for the number. The second-year quarterback has switched to No. 14.
