What Pablo Mari has done amid rumours of £13.5m permanent Arsenal summer transfer

Arsenal have reportedly indicated to Flamengo that they intend to exercise the option to turn Pablo Mari's loan deal into a permanent one in the summer transfer window.

The 26-year-old was one of two arrivals at the Emirates Stadium during the January transfer window, as he has signed on until the end of the season from the Brazilian outfit.

As of yet, the Spaniard has not made his first-team debut. Although he did get a run out for the U23's in a 2-1 loss against Chelsea earlier in the month.

However, it would appear that Arsenal officials as well as head coach Mikel Arteta have seen enough of Mari in training to sign him permanently.

According to reports in Brazil , this has been indicated to Flamengo as the Gunners are seeking to seal a deal and acquire the player's economic rights.

In addition, the report states that a fee taking Mari to the Emirates Stadium could reach 16 million euros (£13.5m) through performance bonuses.

Perhaps coincidentally, not too long after this rumour surfaced Mari took to social media.

He uploaded a couple of images from Wednesday's training session at London Colney ahead of the Europa League round of 32 second leg clash against Olympiacos - where he could make his bow.

He didn't say anything, but used the football and muscle emojis.

Despite not yet handing Mari a first-team debut, Arteta revealed the key reason for bringing his compatriot to north London last month.

"For me it's very important [Mari being left footed]," Arteta said.

"He balances what I want to do from the backline.

"He gives us more options, more solutions and opens up the pitch more.

"He is a player we have been following for a couple of months that we are very happy to have."
