What Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to see from Manchester United against Luton Town

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to see Manchester United looking more like their old selves against Luton Town after calling for a better performance than the opening day of the season.

United were disappointing in losing 3-1 at home to Crystal Palace on Saturday and Solskjaer has rung the changes for the Carabao Cup third-round tie at Kenilworth Road.

Only captain Harry Maguire survives from the Old Trafford horror show and Solskjaer wants to see his side better in all departments against a side who have won all four of their competitive games this season.

Asked what he wanted to see from his side against the Championship outfit, Solskjaer said: “A better performance of course, we want to see our identity and style of football, quicker on the ball, quicker to get to the ball, everything change really."

Among the 10 changes is a competitive debut for Dean Henderson, the academy graduate making his first start for the club nine years and one month after joining.

The 23-year-old will see this as a chance to lay down a challenge to David de Gea and Solskjaer knows how badly Henderson wants to succeed at the club.

"He’s been waiting patiently for so long, he’s very driven, he’s had a great desire to play for Man United in goal and finally now he has his first competitive game for us," he told MUTV.

Luton might be flying high in the Championship but their Kenilworth Road home is one of English football's throwback stadiums, not that Solskjaer believes that will affect his side.

“Most of the lads have been in stadiums like this, for me this is the culture and feel of English football from when I grew up. I came down here with the reserves in 2009 or 2010, with fans it's a difference place, you’d love fans to be here now, but the boys will be fine," he said.
