What Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told Owen Hargreaves about his target at Manchester United during chance meeting

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is not happy with Manchester United's position in the Premier League - despite the club having made clear progress in recent months.

That's according to ex-Red Owen Hargreaves, who bumped into the Old Trafford boss during a chance meeting where the pair spoke about the club's current fortunes.

Last season, United scraped a Champions League spot on the final day of the season, but find themselves in second place this term. At one stage, a title charge looked on for Solskjaer 's side, but Manchester City now sit 10 points ahead of them at the summit.

Hargreaves, speaking on BT Sport, revealed that he bumped into the United manager in Cheshire recently and the two had an exchange about the club's situation at the moment.

“I saw him in Cheshire the other day and said to him, ‘Up to second’, and he said, ‘Second, that’s not good enough. You’ve got to win trophies’," the ex-United midfielder said.

"That’s the mentality. Maybe in the Premier League, they’re not capable of winning that yet this year, but they’ll want to win trophies and I think Ole knows that better than anyone.

"They’re in a better position than they have been, so I think they’re in a decent position, they just need to find a way to win something. I think they’ll win something this year.”

Things in the Europa League are looking much more positive for United after a comfortable first-leg victory over Real Sociedad in the last 32.

Two goals from Bruno Fernandes and one each from Marcus Rashford and Daniel James secured a 4-0 victory at the neutral stadium in Turin, with the second leg set to be played next Thursday.
