What Odion Ighalo has said about joining Manchester United

Manchester United have signed Odion Ighalo before the January transfer window deadline.

The Reds wanted to sign a striker and Ighalo had been heavily linked with a departure from Chinese Super League club Shanghai Shenhua.

United were in talks with Ighalo and the club have now pulled off a deal. But what has the 30-year-old said about his love for United previously?

Before moving to China, the former Watford forward discussed where he might end up in the future and touched on his love for United.

"There has been speculation from Spain and Italy but I've played there and now want to play in England," he told The Sun back in 2016, per IBTimes.

"I don't think I will be moving but I'm not sure I'd say no if United called. They were my team growing up. I loved watching Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke on TV. They were my idols and playing at Old Trafford has always been a dream."

Ighalo has previously discussed his thoughts on playing in China and revealed that his family has not moved away from London.

"Part of the decision I went to China was for them,” the striker told Linda Ikeji TV when speaking about his family.

"Now they won’t understand the type of sacrifice because they are young. But when they grow up and see everything I have achieved and put in their name in they will appreciate it.

"I don’t regret moving to China. It's been great and comfortable, the club have supported me. Everything I want they have given it to me so I can focus on my family.

"My family has not moved to China, my kids still go to school in London. I don’t want to move them because the education in London is much better than in China."

The former Watford striker scored 15 goals in the Premier League during the 2015/16 season and 20 league goals in the previous campaign in the Championship.

Marcus Rashford's back injury has led to United searching for a new striker after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side became low on numbers in that department.
