What Nuno Espirito Santo said about Adama Traore's contract negotiations amid Liverpool links

Adama Traore is still yet to sign a new contract at Wolverhampton Wanderers after speculation linking him to Liverpool.

The 24-year-old has enjoyed a breakthrough couple of seasons at Molineux following his 2018 move from Middlesbrough.

Traore's consistency at being able to produce an end product, along with his strong dribbling ability, has seen him linked with a move to Anfield.

In the summer transfer window, the Reds signed a teammate of Traore's from Wolves with Diogo Jota impressing since his move.

Yet Traore stayed where he was and talk of a new contract soon grew.

These talks, along with Traore's progress at Wolves, appear to have stalled, though.

Goal report that the Spanish international was expected to have signed a new deal by now but his lack of starts has made him reticent to commit his future to Wolves.

Despite making his international debut in October, Traore has not started a Premier League game since September, mainly being used as an impact sub for Daniel Podence and Pedro Neto.

Traore still enjoys a good relationship with Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo and a new contract has not been ruled out, but it is claimed he is holding out for more starts before agreeing to extend his deal, which currently runs until 2023.

Speaking last month, Nuno said he expected Traore to sign a new deal eventually.

“What I can say about this is Adama is delighted to be here,” he said.

“You can see how happy he has been in training just by seeing us be together again.

“Things will happen naturally. Speculation around our players doesn’t bother us.

"We know what we have to do. First of all, you have to be happy where you are, and he clearly is.”
