Toby Alderweireld is still somehow a Tottenham player following the expiration of the £25million release clause in his contract.
With his deal set to come to an end at Spurs this summer, the Lilywhites extended his contract by a further year at the start of January to avoid losing him for absolutely nothing.
That in turn activated a clause in his contract that would allow him to move on for only £25million before the final two weeks of the transfer window.
Amid links with Manchester United and Roma, the Belgian international is still a Spurs player with not one club electing to activate the clause and sign the player for such a low fee.
So what happens now with Alderweireld?
Here we take a look at what could happen to the experienced defender over the coming months.
Sold before the transfer deadline
There is still a chance the player could move on before the new Premier League season despite the fact his release clause has now expired.
Reports from Italy earlier in the month had suggested that Roma would make a cut-price move for the player after Thursday, July 25 as they were under the impression they would be able to get him on the cheap.

However, that's just not going to happen when you've got Daniel Levy to deal with.
The Spurs chairman can now name his price for Alderweireld and it will be a lot more than the £25m clubs could have signed him for.
It wouldn't make financial sense at all for clubs to do that now and a stay at Spurs is looking likely.
While there is still a chance he could be sold over the coming weeks, it would leave Mauricio Pochettino and the club limited time to bring in a replacement.
Signs new Spurs contract
A new contract at Spurs could be a possibility.
Alderweireld was outstanding for the club last season as he joined forces alongside Jan Vertonghen once again after a disappointing 2017/18 campaign, and Pochettino may want to offer him new terms to remain for the foreseeable future.
Harry Winks and Ben Davies have signed new contracts this summer and the club will need to sit down with a number of players as the likes of Christian Eriksen, Vertonghen and Alderweireld can leave on free transfers next July.
The trio are extremely important players for the Lilywhites and their futures needs to be sorted sooner rather than later.
Signs pre-contract agreement from January
Alderweireld will be allowed to sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs from January due to the fact he's now in the last year of his deal.
There's nothing Spurs can do to stop talks taking place and plenty of clubs will no doubt be sniffing about if his contract situation remains the same come January.

Signing Alderweireld on a free transfer will be a huge coup for clubs and it wouldn't be a surprise to see Europe's best discuss a contract from the 2020/21 season onwards with the player.
Juventus are the kings of free transfers and you wouldn't bet against them making a move for the defender.
Leaves on a free transfer
There is a real possibility Spurs could lose the player for absolutely nothing next summer as it stands.
If no new contract is signed and he isn't sold for a fee either in the coming weeks or in January, he will depart on a free transfer at the end of the coming season.
Hopefully it doesn't come to that situation this time next year, but there's a very good chance it could well do so.
