What Nottingham's Tier 3 lockdown means for pubs and bars

Tougher measures will be imposed on pubs and bars later this week as Greater Nottingham moves into the highest tier of Covid restrictions.

Nottingham, Broxtowe, Gedling and Rushcliffe will enter Tier 3 from a minute past midnight on Thursday for 28 days.

The stricter rules come on top of the 10pm curfew, table service, compulsory masks when entering or moving around, and only single households meeting inside.

Cafes and restaurants can remain open and the existing regulations remain the same.

However, from Thursday pubs and bars in those areas will have to close unless they serve a "substantial" meal under the latest move.

They can only remain open where they can operate as if they were a restaurant, which means serving a main lunchtime or evening meal. Alcohol can only be served as part of the meal, according to government guidance.

Mixed groups of up to six can no longer meet outside a pub or restaurant under Tier 3 restrictions.
