What Nottingham health bosses want from pub-goers during coronavirus pandemic

Health bosses are calling on revellers to ensure they leave accurate contact details with pubs and restaurants in order to fight the coronavirus pandemic.

The New Engine House in Carlton Hill closed its doors after a drinker tested positive for the coronavirus.

It took the voluntary action after it was notified by the customer that they'd come down with the infection.

Landlady Eleanor Chesterton, who runs the pub with her husband Paul, said: "We closed for ten days for a deep clean. We have followed all the government guidelines to a tee.

"We were told we didn't have to close but we have a duty of care to our customers, family and friends, so we felt compelled to do so."

The Chequers Inn at Ranby, north Notts, temporarily closed on Wednesday, July 29, after two members of staff tested positive for coronavirus.

Public Health said it was "critically important" that pub-goers leave accurate details so that they can be traced.

Jonathan Gribbin, Director of Public Health Nottinghamshire, said: "What I want for residents across Nottinghamshire is that when they go out to enjoy themselves for an evening that their expectation going into a restaurant or bar or pub should be that everyone provides really accurate information about their name and contact details because if later on, we do need to take some further action or investigations about what we have found out about new cases it is critically important to us.

"We want all residents to have that expectation as customers."

Alison Challenger, Director of Public Health at Nottingham, added: "We don't have that confirmation that coronavirus is being picked up inside pubs.

"The transmission happens in households and out in our communities and what we want to do to keep pubs safe is allowing us to identify any risks or contact tracing by taking contact details and enforcing that responsible behaviour."
