What Nottingham Forest old boy Robert Earnshaw has been up to since hanging up his boots

Former Nottingham Forest star Robert Earnshaw says he is ready for his next challenge in football.

Earnshaw spent three years with the Reds after joining them from Derby County in 2008.

The Welshman scored 45 goals in 113 appearances for the club, helping them reach the Championship play-off in successive campaigns.

The well-travelled striker eventually brought the curtain down on his playing career at Vancouver Whitecaps in January 2016.

Earnshaw stayed on the Major League Soccer club in Canada, taking up a youth coaching role.

After two years coaching various age groups, he left to join the Whitecaps' USL (United Soccer League) affiliate Fresno FC as assistant coach in March 2018.

That particular adventure ended in November and he has now returned to the UK.

Earnshaw, who celebrates his 39th birthday tomorrow (Monday), has spent some time back at Forest, taking part in some under-23 coaching sessions alongside Chris Cohen.

Now he is waiting to take the next step in his career.

"For me it is a case of waiting for the right project to come along, wherever that may be in the world," Earnshaw told Forest's official website.

"I really enjoy my coaching and at the minute I'm studying for my UEFA Pro Licence so this break is giving me the opportunity to concentrate on that and learn plenty of new things which will help towards that.

"It was a great experience for me to come back to Forest a couple of months ago and do some coaching sessions alongside Chris Cohen and the under-23s.

"I'm still really good friends with Chris so it was nice to come back and help some of the young strikers within his group and I was very thankful for that opportunity.

"There are always plenty of opportunities out there in the football world but I want to find a project that is right for me and that will help me develop further as a coach.

"I've travelled around the world gaining knowledge and experience from other coaches and now it's about putting that into practice."
