What Nottingham Forest must do before transfer window closes to keep pace with West Brom and Leeds United

Nottingham Forest have just two days left to complete their transfer business before the January window slams shut on Friday.

So far this month, Sabri Lamouchi has lured just one player to the City Ground with the club poised to announce a second at any moment, NottinghamshireLive understands.

Huddersfield Town winger Adama Diakhaby moved to Trentside in a deal that will give the Reds some back-up fire-power.

Meanwhile, Forest are closing in on French striker Nuno da Costa with the deal now .

Tuesday night's win over Brentford has lifted Lamouchi's side closer to the top two and they can now be considered true automatic promotion contenders with just 16 games left this season.

But what must they do between now and Friday to ensure they keep pace with the division's top two, Leeds United and West Brom?

Complete striker signing

The long drawn-out back-up striker saga has been a big talking point of Lamouchi's first six months in charge at Forest.

The club have been linked with a host of players including Dwight Gayle, Glenn Murray, Nahki Wells and Eddie Nketiah as they look to provide Lewis Grabban with some healthy competition in attack.

But now it looks set to come to a end with the Red set to complete a 2m euro deal to sign Nuno da Costa.

The certainly feels like it will be the last of Forest's transfer business this season before a final push towards what they hope will be the Premier League.

Nuno da Costa latest

Forest are poised to confirm their second signing of the January transfer window,  NottinghamshireLive understands.

Sabri Lamouchi's Reds will today complete the capture of Strasbourg striker Nuno da Costa after a fee was agreed with the French club for his services.

On Tuesday morning,  reports in France revealed that the forward was close to completing his deal following a successful medical in Greece.

If all goes to plan he will be available for  Saturday's clash with Birmingham City.

Keep hold of Matty Cash

The brilliant Matty Cash has proven to be one of Forest's key defenders this term, and few would have predicted that during the summer.

The midfielder-turned-full-back has found his feet on the right side of Lamouchi's defence and has been so impressive that he has even found himself linked with one of Europe's biggest sides.

And his was praised once again on Tuesday night for his stunning performance at Griffin Park.

While every player has his valuation, keepping Cash will be key in the final days of the window if the Reds are serious about promotion.

Matty Cash latest

Nottingham Forest appear to have received a boost in their bid to keep hold of Matty Cash.

The versatile Reds full-back has been linked with a host of clubs during this month’s transfer window, including Premier league duo West Ham and Southampton.

Italian giants AC Milan have also been credited with an interest in the 23-year-old, but Forest’s stance has always been to keep the Nigel Doughty Academy graduate at the City Ground.

Now a report in  The Independent say that West Ham have widened their search for a new right-back, and are now targeting Red Bull Salzburg defender Rasmus Kristensen.

How the others have strengthened?

Leeds United

You could be forgiven for thinking that Marcelo Bielsa's side are already preparing for life in the Premier League with their January signings.

The Elland Road club lured Ian Povedo from Manchester City and Elia Caprile from Chievo before, on Tuesday, completing the impressive signing of Leipzig star Jean-Kevin Augustin on loan.

West Brom

West Brom's strong summer business has allowed them the freedom to be quiet during January, but recent results have forced them into some late January action.

On Wednesday, they completed the signing of forward Callum Robinson from Sheffield United - an impressive signing.

Fulham

Scott Parker's side have been one of the busiest sides in the Championship this month. The Cottagers have secured four high-profile signings with two boasting plenty of Premier League appearances.

Ivan Cavaleiro is the pick of the bunch and could provide the firepower to fire Fulham well into the race.

Brentford

Lamouchi's side took a huge step forward on Tuesday night by putting Brentford aside in the Championship. The Bees have limited funds and are preparing for life in a new stadium. Under boss Thomas Frank they are yet to sign a player this month.

In: None

Out: Mads Bech Sorensen (AFC Wimbledon, loan)

Bristol City

Like Forest, Bristol City have remained quite so far this month. The January transfer window has been a quiet one across the division and the Robins are yet to attract a single signing, despite a long winded and failed pursuit of Arsenal youngster Eddie Nketiah.

Ins: None

Outs: Tyreeq Bakinson (Plymouth, loan), Hakeeb Adelukan (Rotherham, loan), Sammie Szmodics (Peterborough, loan), Bailey Wright (Sunderland, loan).
