What NFL’s restricted free agent tender amounts mean for Seahawks

The NFL released it’s 2019 salary cap on Friday and with the announcement, teams could begin to formally tally contract numbers for potential free agents and tag candidates.

With the $11M increase this season, the league-wide cap is now set at $188.2M per club. Per Over the Cap, the Seahawks have $48,378,466 in effective cap space as of the start of the new league year on March 13.

With the cap amount now known, tender amounts for teams opting to use either a franchise or transition tag could also be calculated. For instance, Seattle would be on the hook for $17.128M in 2019 should it opt to designate defensive end Frank Clark with the non-exclusive franchise tag, keeping him in a Seahawks uniform for another year without having to settle on a new long-term deal.

Other numbers that could be factored using the updated salary cap are the amounts of the restricted free agent tenders. George Fant, Tre Madden, Quinton Jefferson, and Akeem King are among the Seahawks potential RFAs this season.

MMQB’s Albert Breer tweeted the applicable salary figures for restricted free agents – NFL players with three accrued seasons.
