What next for Costel Pantilimon at Nottingham Forest as Sabri Lamouchi explains Tobias Figueiredo's absence

Doubt has been cast over Costel Pantilimon’s future, with the keeper left out of the Nottingham Forest squad for the second major friendly game in a row.

Both Jordan Smith and Luke Steele were both included on a packed bench against Real Sociedad, with Aro Muric set to be first choice between the posts for the coming campaign.

The on-loan Manchester City stopper played well against the Spanish side and has quickly established himself as number one.

However, doubt remains over the future of the rest of Forest’s goalkeeping contingent.

Pantilimon, himself a former Manchester City player, had previously been linked with a move to Olympiacos - a prospect that the Reds had played down.

While Steele is also understood to be among the crop of players regarded as being surplus to requirements this summer.

It seems increasingly likely that at least one of Pantilimon or Steele will depart before the window closes, as Forest look to trim the number of keepers they have on their books.

“Pantilimon is the same as the last time - it was just my choice to leave him out,” said Lamouchi, when asked about the Romanian’s absence.

Pantilimon had also sat out the game against Crystal Palace.

Another notable absence from the squad on Friday night was Tobias Figueiredo.

Lamouchi confirmed that the former Portugal under-21 international does not have an injury problem - but is just back in his home country, dealing with a personal matter.

“Tobias has a personal problem that he has to resolve in Portugal. He will return after the weekend,” said Lamouchi.
