What Newcastle United loan manager Shola Ameobi said to Carlisle United about Elias Sorensen

Newcastle United loan manager Shola Ameobi has re-opened dialogue with Carlisle United over Elias Sorensen's loan spell.

The Magpies are concerned that Sorensen has barely been used in League Two in what they see as a big season for the young Danish striker.

Carlisle boss Stephen Pressley handed Sorensen a full 90 minute run out against Wolves with the Cumbrians beaten 4-2 at Brunton Park.

Now United will hope that more game-time in League Two will come the way of Sorensen.

The view on Tyneside is that Sorensen may have enjoyed 90 minutes in the EFL Trophy but that is no different to the full matches he could get with Newcastle in the same competition.

United are wary of his wasted spell at Blackpool last season but Ameobi has now had a healthy conversation with Pressley as the clubs look to come to a positive arrangement.

After the game, Pressley said: "I was really pleased with the improvements in some of our players.

"I just spoke with Shola Ameobi regarding Elias.

"He has just called me, and that’s the hardest he’s ever seen him work.

"He worked tirelessly tonight and that’s real improvement in the kid since he’s come in here.

"I’ve had a couple of good conversations with him.

"I’ve spoken to him about a number of things.

"For me, his response has been excellent. So that was really encouraging."
