What Newcastle United fans are saying ahead of Manchester City clash

Newcastle United fans do not seem to be feeling particularly confident about the Boxing Day clash with Manchester City.

Steve Bruce's side take on City at the Etihad Stadium later (8pm) in their first match after Christmas.

Newcastle go into the game on the back of a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Championship outfit Brentford in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.

And they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Fulham in their latest league outing, which followed the 5-2 thumping at Leeds United.

The Magpies have taken 18 points from 13 league games to date - five wins, five defeats and three draws.

City, meanwhile, have collected 23 points from the same number of fixtures - six wins, two defeats and five draws.

Pep Guardiola's men beat Arsenal 4-1 at the Emirates Stadium last time out to book their place in the Carabao Cup semi-finals.

That followed a hard-fought 1-0 victory away to Southampton in their previous league match.

City will be without Kyle Walker and Gabriel Jesus against Newcastle after the pair tested positive for Covid-19.

The Magpies are still recovering from a coronavirus outbreak of their own, which has sidelined the likes of Allan Saint-Maximin, Jamaal Lascelles and Emil Krafth.

Looking ahead to the City showdown, one pessimistic Newcastle fans joked on Twitter: "I'm hopeful of double figures percentage possession this evening."

Another tweeted: "Absolutely dreading later," while a third said: "Am I a bad fan if I don't watch us play tonight? I'm not sure I can stomach it..."
