What Neil Warnock told his Middlesbrough players at half time against Bristol City

Neil Warnock has said he always felt Middlesbrough were a threat for Bristol City - and that they deserved their win against the Robins.

Middlesbrough ended Bristol City's unbeaten start to the new Championship season as George Saville's second half strike proved to be the difference between the two sides at Ashton Gate.

It was a game of few opportunities, particularly for the Robins, who failed to work Boro goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli as they went 90 minutes without a shot on target.

But Warnock has said that while he was disappointed not to be ahead at half time, having seen his side squander a number of chances in the first 45 minutes, he was not concerned that it would not be his side's night as he opened up on his message to his players at the break.

“I always felt we’d have more chances crop up," he said, as reported by TeessideLive.

“I said again at half-time I felt we could be 25-30% better, and the lads all agreed.

“I thought we could have moved it a little bit quicker, and we did after the break. We looked a good side at times."

And Warnock, who said he missed not having the Bristol City fans inside the stadium, said he felt that Boro were worthy winners on the night.

He told BBC Tees : “I’m chuffed. I think we deserved it as well. We dominated and had some good chances.

“We restricted Bristol to just one shot on target and I think that epitomised our performance right throughout the whole team.

“We worked hard as a unit, right from the top, and we were always dangerous going forward."
