What Neil Warnock has said about managing Hearts and Hibernian as former Cardiff City boss enters running

Neil Warnock has parted company with Cardiff City, and a move to Scotland could be next for the former Bluebirds manager.

The 70-year-old’s departure was confirmed by Cardiff , with the club lying 14th in the Championship after a tricky start to the season.

Warnock leaves the Bluebirds after over three years in charge, during which time he led them back to the Premier League before dropping back down to the second tier last season. You can follow live coverage of his departure here .

And his exit leaves the door open for a move north of the border, with Hearts or Hibernian possible destinations.

Both Scottish Premiership sides are on the lookout for new managers, following the respective departures of Craig Levein and Paul Heckingbottom in recent weeks.

Following his departure from Cardiff, Warnock is now 6/1 with SkyBet to become the new Hearts boss, while he sits at 12/1 for the Hibs job.

And the former Sheffield United manager, who owns a house in Dunoon, has already spoken this season about his desire to manage one of the two Edinburgh clubs.

“I’ve always fancied one of them – Hibs and Hearts,” Warnock told the Edinburgh Evening News back in September.

“It appeals to me up there with them being neighbours.

“No disrespect to the big two but I’ve always been an underdog and I’ve always thought: ‘I wish I could get a club up there and get a team to rival Celtic and Rangers.’

“That’s how it used to be. Rangers haven’t been the force they were in recent years but I look back at what Aberdeen did all those years ago. It was unheard of, wasn’t it?

“It would be nice to get something like that going. You’d have to do it on team spirit and togetherness and all that because the money isn’t there for Hearts and Hibs to compete with the two Glasgow clubs, really.”
