What Neal Ardley told Notts County players at half-time in Sutton United draw

Neal Ardley admitted he had a few choice words for his Notts County players at half-time as they fought back to claim a point at Sutton United.

The Magpies were a goal down early on when Harry Beautyman slid in the opener as the hosts took advantage of a poor opening 20 minutes by the visitors.

But Notts , which was his first goal for the club since arriving from Scunthorpe.

Ardley’s side then dominated the rest of the game with Jamie Butler pulling off two brilliant saves to deny Regan Booty and Kristian Dennis.

In the end, Notts had to settle for a point and Ardley was pleased with how his side came back into the game.

“We didn’t start the game well enough,” he said.

“For the first 20 minutes, we were second to a lot of stuff and didn’t have a tempo about us.

“We didn’t come out of the blocks, found ourselves 1-0 down and it’s always hard when that happens.

“There were a few choice words at half-time and the boys responded really well.

“We should have gone on to win the game.

“Their goalkeeper won the man of the match award which tells you all you need to know.”
