What N'Golo Kante has said about his role in Chelsea's midfield under Frank Lampard

N'Golo Kante is now back in the Chelsea team following a troublesome time through injury.

Injuring his knee in the win over Watford at the start of May, the midfielder somehow played the full 90 minutes in the Europa League final against Arsenal but then missed the subsequent international games in June.

Included in Chelsea's squad for the pre-season tours of Ireland and Japan last month, Kante failed to play a single minute and trained away from his teammates before Frank Lampard elected to send him home from the latter to continue his rehabilitation back at Cobham.

Coming off the substitutes' bench in the 4-0 humbling at Manchester United last Sunday, the World Cup winner was back in the starting XI in the UEFA Super Cup against Liverpool in midweek and impressed everyone with his energetic display.

Kante started in a midfield three alongside Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic during the game in Istanbul, with the Italian slightly deeper as how Maurizio Sarri utilised him last campaign.

The position of the ex-Leicester City man dominated talk last season but it appears that he is happy to carry on in a more advanced role if the new head coach continues to play him there.

"I like to play in this position, this is where I played last year," he told Goal after the penalty shootout defeat against Liverpool.

"The coach asked me to play in this position, I like to do it.

"I know what to do with my teammates and we played a good game tonight."
