Monchi has hailed the work done by Arsenal in recent years, describing them as 'a pioneer club'.
The director of football, who was a target role the role with the Gunners before Raul Sanllehi's appointment, has made his name overseeing transfer dealings behind the scenes as he has taken on the role with AS Roma and Sevilla.
His first spell with the La Liga club saw them win the Europa League on three successive occasions between 2013 and 2016, and he'll be hoping to recreate that success after rejoining the club this year.
Speaking to El Confidencial, Monchi was discussing the business that goes on behind the scenes and credits the Gunners during the latter years of Arsene Wenger's reign as a fine example of good work going under the radar.
He said: “Of course, football’s problem is that everything is based on results.
“But there are projects that consolidate their future in the present with good selling policies, talent retention, academies.
“Sometimes they only get the attention when they get results, but they aren’t valued in the moment.
“The example of Arsenal is a very good one. They are a pioneer club that invested in data, bought their own ‘app’ five or six years ago and are developing it.”
