What Mo Salah said about ending goalless streak alongside Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson

Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah admitted he didn't even think about passing to Roberto Firmino after he and club captain Jordan Henderson both ended their goal droughts.

The Egypt international fired Liverpool ahead in the second half against Southampton, after Naby Keita’s first-half goal cancelled out Shane Long’s opener, before Henderson capped off the result in the dying moments.

Salah ’s goal at St. Mary’s was his 50th in the Premier League for Liverpool, becoming the fastest player to hit that landmark for the Reds.

Top-scorer in the league last season, Salah has attracted some criticism this season for being unable to replicate his tremendous scoring return last year but he still sits second in the scoring charts, one goal behind Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero.

Speaking after the match, Salah admitted ending his recent dip in form was important - but pointed out that Henderson , who scored his first goal of the season, had endured a longer wait for a goal.

“I think that’s goal number 50 in the Premier League for Liverpool, that’s special. So, after nine games I’m very happy and proud to score the goal and help the team. That’s the most important thing for us,” he told Sky Sports.

“I scored my first goal in nine games, he scored his first goal in 20 games!”

Salah also admitted that he did not consider passing to fellow forward Roberto Firmino, who joined him hitting Southampton on the counter, as he only had eyes for goal.

“Not at all! As a striker you need to score, I’m always thinking about scoring. I took the decision to take a shot and in the end it’s a goal so I’m happy about it,” he responded when asked if he considered passing.

Liverpool’s attention now switches to the Champions League clash with Porto on Tuesday, before Jurgen Klopp’s side host Chelsea at Anfield next weekend.
