Mikel Arteta set out the three things he was looking for from Arsenal against Everton as he watched from the stands in a message to the dressing room before kick off at Goodison Park.
Speaking after the game Calum Chambers revealed what the new head coach of the Gunners said to the squad as he visited his players ahead their 0-0 draw.
He watched on from the stands with Steve Round, a former assistant manager to David Moyes at Everton and Manchester United who is expected to join him at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal secured just their third clean sheet of the season in the Premier League in Freddie Ljungberg's final match in charge as interim boss.
It was a contest short on quality but to keep the ball out of Bernd Leno's net will go down as an achievement for the Gunners.
Chambers told BT Sport what Arteta told the team we wanted to see from them against Everton.
"He just wants us to be brave, take responsibility and work hard for each other," said the defender. "Those were the messages from him.
"I feel we did that today. Now there's more. We go to the training ground and there's a lot more we can work on.
"His philosophy and the things we wants to bring to the team I'm sure we'll be working hard on that this week."
According to Chambers, Arsenal do have the players to be able to suit Arteta's demands, especially when it comes to the youngsters coming through.
"This is a promising group," he said. "We just have to work hard, build on this performance, work on things in the training ground and keep going."
