It is understood that only legal paperwork and fine details stand between the Spaniard and his unveiling at the Emirates Stadium.
Furthermore, the Gunners ope to confirm Arteta's appointment in time for Saturday's trip to Everton.
Although the new head coach is not expected to play a significant role on the touchline in that match, which will also see Carlo Ancelotti in the stands at Goodison Park as he closes in on the Toffees job.

But just minutes after news of this agreement broke, Arteta arrived with the Man City squad at the Kassam Stadium ahead of their Carabao Cup tie against Oxford United.
This was expected to happen as Pep Guardiola confirmed this would be the case during his pre-match press conference.
"He's an incredible person, work ethic, and that's why he's with us. He is talking with Arsenal so I don't know what's going to happen.
