What Mikel Arteta did on the touchline after Crystal Palace's Jordan Ayew equalised vs Arsenal

Mikel Arteta's Arsenal side were held to a 1-1 draw by Crystal Palace at the weekend.

Fresh off beating Manchester United and Leeds United to begin 2020 in fine fashion, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang set the Gunners on their way to a third straight win across all competitions, but the hosts managed to earn a point from the London derby.

The result might have left supporters frustrated but many have been impressed with the visible improvement on the pitch in such a short space of time since the Spaniard was appointed.

Mikel Arteta: We switched off for the goal

During the game, Arteta was seen on camera reacting to how his side were playing.

On the club's official website, Arsenal posted their regular 'Bench Cam' video, which captures the head coach's every move in the dugout.

And whilst Arteta was delighted with Aubameyang's opening goal, he couldn't hide his frustration at allowing the Eagles back into the game early in the second half when Jordan Ayew equalised when his shot took a wicked deflection off David Luiz before looping into the net.

At the 3.25 mark as the Gunners head coach can be seen gesturing to his players to switch on as Palace played a short free-kick, a few seconds later - as Palace score - he gestures to the bench before kicking out.

With that said, the initial frustration does fade as Arteta then offers encouragement to his squad.

Unfortunately it wasn't enough as the 10-man visitors couldn't find the winner despite going close through Luiz, Nicolas Pepe and Alexandre Lacazette as they had to settle for a share of the points.

Arteta's angry reaction should come as no surprise as he revealed just how disappointed he was with Palace's equaliser in his post-match press conference.

"I was very pleased with the way we started, the way we dominated the first half - things I saw that we worked on in training and the way they executed them, " he told reporters.

"But obviously after the break we knew they were going to push and get more bodies forward and put us under more pressure. We started to give away a lot of free kicks - something we have to try to avoid in this ground and then we switched off.

"For the goal we completely switched off. We allowed them to put the cross in, we turned and conceded a deflection and I'm very disappointed with that.

"After that, I must say we reacted really well after conceding and after Auba's red card, we reacted even better in my opinion."
