What Met Office says about June heatwave predictions

Forecasters at the Met Office say it's not impossible that a heatwave will hit in June, but it's still too early to tell.

Weather experts at AccuWeather are forecasting scorching temperatures for the majority of next month.

Across most of the South West, the mercury will hover above 20C throughout June, long-range forecasts from AccuWeather show.

But the Met Office's Craig Snells says his authority's charts are still too changeable to be able to make accurate predictions for June.

He did confirm that early signs for the coming Bank Holiday weekend are looking good, with the extended break likely to be dry and warmer than recent weeks.

Most of May has been overcast, with near-constant rain showers and chilly temperatures.

And Craig said as soon as this clears, temperatures will start to feel warmer and 'more what you would expect for this time of year'.

He said: "We are only making predictions for the end of the month at the moment.

"The bank holiday signs look dry and we could see temperatures into the high teens.

"The general trend for June is that it does tend to be hotter and drier, so it's possible we'll experience a heatwave.

"We are going into the summer months - June, July, August - so you would expect the weather to warm up."
