What Met Office says about claims of 20cm of snow this weekend

The Met Office has responded to claims 20cms of snow could fall in some places across the UK this weekend.

Forecasters say wintry weather will roll down from Scotland and hit parts of England, especially the north, Devon Live reports.

Snow is indeed a possibility this weekend as temperatures drop below average, the Met Office has said.

However, the weather agency has stopped short of saying there will be heavy snow on this scale.

Temperatures are set to drop to 2C in Bristol from tomorrow (November 8), the latest forecasts suggest.

According to the Met Office, there could also be a mixture of rain showers and sunny spells in the south west rather than snow.

The outlook for Saturday to Monday says: "After a dry start to Saturday, heavy rain is due later in the morning.

"Sunday will bring showers and sunny spells. On Monday, further long spells of rain."

The long range forecast for the south west says there could be snow over high ground.

Forecasters say: "On Tuesday (November 12), there will be sunshine and blustery showers for most, with some hail possible.

"There may also be some sleet at lower levels across the north, along with possible hill snow from North Wales northwards.

"Strong winds for many, with gales possible in the northwest, which will make it feel cold.

"The rest of the working week looks set to remain rather cold and unsettled, with rain or showers for many as well as some snow over high ground in the north.

"Occasional stormier periods are possible in the south. Some overnight frost and fog is likely during quieter interludes.

"Towards the end of the period, more settled weather may become established in the south, with more widespread fog and frost as rain and stronger winds are displaced northwest."
