What Mesut Ozil told his Fenerbahce team-mates following transfer from Arsenal

Former Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has admitted that it was "always his dream" to play for Fenerbahce following his move to the Turkish giants.

After several weeks and months of uncertainty surrounding his future, Ozil left Arsenal, officially, on Sunday, joining the Turkish club on a free transfer.

He had held talks with American outfit DC United over the prospect of sealing a move to the MLS but the opportunity to join Fenerbahce was just too good for him to turn down.

After going through the formalities of addressing the media for the first time since his arrival, Ozil met up, and trained, with his new team-mates for the very first time on Wednesday.

Before the session got under way, Ozil, with his new team-mates crowded round, delivered a passionate cry to the rest of the players, insisting it was a "dream as a Fenerbahce fan" to get the opportunity to play for the club.

"I am so happy that I am here," Ozil said. "It was always my dream as a Fenerbahce fan. This dream came true for me today.

"I tried hard for it. God has bestowed this upon me, so I am here.

"I hope we will have a successful season. I wish everyone good luck and thank you for everything."

Ozil's departure from the Emirates Stadium finally brought clarity for both the club and Ozil, with the former Real Madrid star having not played for the club in almost a year.

Since the midfielder sealed his exit, Arsenal have acted swiftly to draft in a new central attacking-midfielder in the shape of Martin Odegaard, who joined the club on loan from Real Madrid on Wednesday.

Ozil could make his debut for Fenerbahce when they face Rizespor at home on Saturday.
