What Mesut Ozil has done in Arsenal training with Mikel Arteta which he didn't under Unai Emery

The arrival of Mikel Arteta as Arsenal's new head coach has brought the best out of Mesut Ozil during the Gunners' training sessions, according to reports.

Ozil's future at the Emirates looked bleak under former boss Unai Emery, with the German often left out of matchday squads and struggling to recapture his best form for much of this season.

But the 31-year-old has started in all three games since Arteta was appointed and is set to play a key role in the second half of the Gunners’ campaign.

The former Real Madrid midfielder was instrumental in Arsenal 's 2-0 win over Manchester United on New Year's Day, with goals from Nicolas Pepe and Sokratis sealing the victory over Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.

And according to ESPN , Ozil has rediscovered his spark since the change of management and has shown a marked improvement during training sessions.

The report also claims that Ozil is ‘a totally changed player’, with his efforts in training impressing sources at the club.

Speaking ahead of Arsenal's FA Cup tie with Leeds, Arteta reiterated that he views Ozil as a pivotal player in his plans.

"I haven’t been surprised by Mesut’s performances because I know him well and his ability," said the Arsenal boss.

"But the structure has to be there to help him bring out everything he has inside. He can’t do it all on his own.

"Nowadays, there are only two or three players in the world who can do that. I try to prepare the team with the strengths and weaknesses we have in mind.

"In these kind of positions Mesut can be very effective. Now I am hoping that he can sustain this level every three or four days and he’s putting in everything he has to try to do that.

"His physical numbers have improved so much and he’s willing every day in training."
