What Mesut Ozil did in the tunnel after Arsenal's win over Manchester United

Smiles were back on the faces of Arsenal players following the 2-0 win over Manchester United on New Year's Day.

It's been a very poor start to the season for the Gunners.

A seven game winless run across all competitions ultimately cost Unai Emery his job at the end of November, while Freddie Ljungberg could only muster one victory during his six games as interim head coach.

Mikel Arteta was appointed on the eve of the draw against Everton, and watched on from the dugout as the Gunners drew at Bournemouth on Boxing Day before losing 2-1 at home against Chelsea three days later.

Supporters will be hoping that the victory over Man United can help to turn the season around.

One player who has certainly responded well to the managerial change is Mesut Ozil. Often left out of the squad altogether by Emery, the 31-year-old has started all three games under Arteta.

Whilst he impressed against Bournemouth as well as the Blues, he didn't see out the full 90 minutes in either game.

That changed against the Red Devils and he put in a big shift.

Ozil regained possession 10 times in the game, more than any other Arsenal player, and also covered the most ground of any Arsenal player (11.53km).

At the final whistle, the BT Sport cameras picked up Ozil and Arteta embracing before the Gunners no.10 was called into a team huddle in the centre circle.

Post-match footage continued into the tunnel where Ozil was captured on Arsenal Media walking back to the dressing room and he screamed "Yaaaa" before saying something in his native language.

From the dressing room, Ozil took to social media to put out a message to the supporters.

On his official Twitter account after the game, the German hailed the backing of the Emirates crowd along with the performance of the players.

"From the team performance to the atmosphere," he tweeted. "A great night at the Emirates. Happy New Year!"
