What Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's royal baby statement means and what will actually happen

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have released a statement explaining that they have decided to break from tradition and keep certain details about their royal baby's birth a secret.

As well as thanking well-wishers for all their messages, they revealed that they've "taken a personal decision to keep the plans around the arrival of their baby private".

It states: "The Duke and Duchess look forward to sharing the exciting news with everyone once they have had an opportunity to celebrate privately as a new family."

While many fans completely understand the couple's decision and celebrate the modern approach, others are disappointed they won't get a glimpse of Baby Sussex straight away.

But what does their statement actually mean?

Meghan Markle 'will get into hot water' with Queen if she discusses this important topic

The announcement

Just as we did with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, an official birth announcement will be made after the royal baby arrives.

These normally contain the gender, weight, time of birth and a brief update on how the mother is getting on.

Traditionally announcements were made on an easel outside Buckingham Palace, but Kate and Wills decided to share the news on social media.

It's likely that Meghan and Harry will follow in their footsteps, and could share their happy news on their new Instagram page.

Not a chance.

The couple have said they will share they news once they've had time to celebrate, which means we won't get the tradition royal photo of mum, dad and baby leaving hospital.

Princess Diana and the Duchess of Cambridge both smiled on the steps of the Lindo Wing after giving birth to their royal babies, to the delight of fans around the world.

Details of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's second date revealed - and it's was very special

They will probably take the royal baby home to meet all of their loved ones - including granny the Queen - before they let everyone else see him or her.

So after we've had the official statement, it's unlikely that we will hear or see any more until a few days later.

So when will we actually get to see the baby?

It's likely that the couple will invite a few selected member of the media to a set location to take official photos of the new baby.

These will probably be released officially by Buckingham Palace through the new Sussex office.

It's also likely that the couple will share a snap on their new Instagram page, which already has millions of followers.

We expect this to happen two or three days after the baby is born, but we don't know for sure.
