What Mauricio Pochettino has said about Gareth Bale amid reports of return to Spurs this summer

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino admits that the current situation at Real Madrid is not easy for Gareth Bale or the club, amid talk of him leaving the Spanish capital this summer.

The Welshman has found his opportunities limited under Zinedine Zidane in recent months, with reports of a breakdown in the relationship between player and manager leading to increased speculation over his future.

As such, the former Spurs star is being linked with a return to England this summer, with Tottenham and Manchester United among the clubs listed as potential suitors for the 29-year-old.

But while Spurs are among the favourites to sign Bale this summer, Pochettino has been coy over whether Tottenham could make a move to try and re-sign a player who scored 55 goals in 203 appearances for the club, prior to joining Real Madrid.

“He’s a Real Madrid player," Pochettino said while laughing in an interview with El Chiringuito TV .

"But we have a good relationship. We played against him last year. I have good references about him.

“Everyone has a fond memory of him here, just like they do at Southampton. He still has three years on his contract at Madrid. It’s a situation that isn’t easy for him and isn’t easy for the club."
