What Mauricio Pochettino has said about Donny van de Beek amid Manchester United links

Ex-Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has shown his admiration for midfielder Donny van de Beek, with reports suggesting that the head coach could switch PSG for Manchester United.

The Red Devils are currently searching for a new permanent manager following the dismissal of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with the former United legend struggling in the Premier League with just one win from his last seven games.

The Old Trafford outfit were previously linked with a move for now Spurs coach Antonio Conte, but the Italian made the move to north London instead after the dismissal of Nuno Espirito Santo.

Reports now suggest that the hierarchy at Manchester United are keen on hiring former Tottenham boss Pochettino, despite the Argentine currently having a job at Ligue 1 leaders PSG.

The Manchester Evening News reports that Manchester United are confident of hiring Mauricio Pochettino as their next permanent manager.

The 49-year-old guided the Lilywhites to a fantastic Champions League run, taking his side all the way to the final in 2019.

They fell at the last hurdle though, as Premier League rivals Liverpool beat them in Madrid to win their sixth Champions League trophy.

The run to the final included a comeback for the ages, as Spurs turned around a semi-final, where they looked destined to crash out of the competition, to beat Ajax.

A Lucas Moura hat-trick in Amsterdam was enough to bring Pochettino to tears as his side progressed to the final.

Among the players in that Ajax side was Donny van de Beek, a midfielder that the manager could unite with if he makes the switch to Old Trafford.

On the 24-year-old, the Argentine said ahead of the clash in 2019: “I like him very much."

The introduction of Pochettino could be key to the development of the Dutch international, with him struggling for minutes at United since his move and in need of a fresh chance in the side.
