What Matteo Guendouzi has said about former Arsenal boss Unai Emery amid reunion links

It seems that Matteo Guendouzi’s time at Arsenal may come to an end this summer.

The French midfielder has not been involved in a matchday squad since a 2-1 defeat against Brighton in just the second game of the Premier League restart.

It was that game, where the midfielder was accused of bragging about wages to the Seagulls' players.

He has since been frozen out by Mikel Arteta, with moves to Juventus and Barcelona touted for the 21-year-old.

Reports suggest that Arteta has decided to cash in on the Frenchman, and Villarreal have been the latest team credited with an interest.

The La Liga side are managed by former Arsenal boss Unai Emery, the man who brought Guendouzi to the Emirates Stadium in the summer of 2018.

And if the player’s past comments are anything to go by, then he will be keen on a reunion with his former manager.

“We communicate a lot in training, in games on what I can bring on the pitch or in my personal life,” he said in October (via the Metro ).

“He’s someone who’s taught me a lot on and off the pitch.

“I know he trusts me a lot because I’ve started all the games in the Premier League since the start of the season.

“It’s then up to me to stay myself, play well and repay that trust.

“He’s the one who gave me the opportunity at the highest level. I already played a lot last year.

“He gives me a lot of confidence and he’s the one who makes me feel good on the pitch.

“There’s also my teammates, who are a big part of that, but he’s really, really made me progress since I arrived at Arsenal.”

Guendouzi has played a total of 82 times for Arsenal, scoring one goal and providing five assists.
