What Mason Mount said after scoring 'special' England winner in Belgium win

Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount has spoken after netting the winner in the Three Lions' clash with Belgium.

Mount's deflected effort completed the comeback and proved the difference as England defeated the world's number-one-rated team in the Nations League on Sunday.

And while he isn't denying the element of fortune involved in his second senior goal for England, Mount is not playing down the importance of the effort.

“(It's a) Special achievement," he told Sky Sports. "You’ll take them all day - it doesn’t matter how they go in.

Gareth Southgate can't help but mention Mason Mount

"I found myself in a bit of space in the box, and I had one thing on my mind; to try and get it out of my body and shoot. It was a big deflection, but you take them."

Mount was also asked about the level of competition in the England squad and whether he is fazed.

“That’s what you want in the squad, you want that competition, loads of players doing so well.," he added.

"That’s what you need to do to keep the standards high.

"When you get the chance, you wanna take it and play the best you can, and I thought everyone did that today.”

Still only 21, Mount has racked up nine senior England caps, scoring twice so far.
