What Mason Greenwood has to do to become a striker for Manchester United

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes Mason Greenwood will develop into a centre forward for Manchester United but joked the teenager needs to work on his heading.

Greenwood, 18, scored his 18th goal for United in the 3-0 Carabao Cup win at Luton Town after coming on in the 78th minute and is in line to start at Brighton in the Premier League on Saturday.

Solskjaer settled on an attacking trident of Greenwood, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford after the Premier League's restart in June with the teenager on the right, Rashford on the left and Martial spearheading the attack.

Greenwood was a prolific goalscorer at junior level as a striker and Solskjaer still expects him to become an outright number nine.

"He can play through the middle," Solskjaer said. "As a young boy, not physically outgrown yet, sometimes it's nice to be facing forward rather than being the number nine and being the foil and being the battering ram, if you like.

"I think he'll end up as a number nine in the end, probably. But he's so good with his right or left, it doesn't matter if he comes through the middle.

"I scored most of my goals from just outside the posts as well, I wasn't in the middle. For him to be a number nine, though, he needs to learn how to head a ball! I keep telling him that and if he wants to do that he's welcome to come and practice with me!

"He had a fantastic season last season and to get his goal now was important for him and Marcus [Rashford]. Always, for strikers to get that confidence or that feeling of scoring, to get that hunger again.

"So very happy with that and he'll just have to keep working to get his fitness and sharpness back as well as the rest of them."
