What Marcus Rashford told Patrice Evra during Manchester United struggles under Jose Mourinho

P atrice Evra has revealed that Marcus Rashford told him he would never look to leave Manchester United during a conversation the pair had while Jose Mourinho was manager.

The 22-year-old boyhood United fan has risen through the ranks at the club and has now established himself as an integral figure under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

It wasn't always obvious when Mourinho was in charge that Rashford would go on to establish himself as such an important player, but a conversation the England forward had with Evra at the time showed just how determined he was to make the grade at Old Trafford.

"I had a chat with Marcus when he was playing under [Jose] Mourinho and he didn’t have a good time and a lot of clubs were asking him to leave and he said, ‘Patrice, I would never leave Manchester United because it’s the best club in the world’," Evra told Sky Sports.

"When I hear that as a United fan, I was so impressed and so happy."

Evra also praised the England international for his impact off the field after his recent campaign led the government to extend the free school meals programme to cover the summer holidays.

“I’m proud - I’m really proud of him - because they are footballers, not politicians," Evra said. "I can see he really feels it when he speaks about it. I hate it when players are involved in some campaign and they don’t even know what it’s about.

"But you can see in the way he talks. I’m so proud. He will get some stick, because football players, whenever they do something - good or bad - will get some stick. I’m really proud because football is really important.”
