Marcelo Bielsa's dressing room message to his Leeds United's players after Charlton Athletic defeat

Naivety may be to blame for Leeds United’s difficulties in breaking down stubborn defences according to captain Liam Cooper.

The Whites skipper spoke to LUTV after the match at Charlton Athletic on Saturday and reflected upon how the visitors went about attacking a resolute home defence.

Cooper felt there should be no excuses for not being able to score against a deep backline, citing the players at United’s disposal and perhaps an element of naivety in their play.

The centre-back was also fed up with conceding yet another goal from a set-piece and even lifted the lid on what head coach Marcelo Bielsa has been saying behind the scenes.

“It is, but we’ve got the players to play in that. Maybe you could put it down to being a bit naive, but once again we’ve had the chances to win the game,” he said.

“We can’t keep kicking ourselves in the foot with conceding goals like that and it is disappointing, but we’ve got a great game Tuesday night to go and put it right.

“The manager’s told us to stay positive, the luck’ll turn, we’re getting nothing at the minute and we’ll keep going.”
