What Marcelo Bielsa said to Leeds United's players in the dressing room post-match

Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa admitted he felt it was 'not possible' for his side to be held to a 3-3 draw by Cardiff City at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon.

The Whites looked on course to record an eighth successive Championship win when goals from Patrick Bamford (two) and Helder Costa had fired them into a 3-0 lead after just 52 minutes.

An astonishing Cardiff fightback saw the Bluebirds score three times inside the final half-hour to secure the most unlikely of draws.

Just like almost everyone else inside Elland Road, Whites boss Bielsa was left to try and make sense as to what had just happened.

After a run of seven successive league wins, having to reflect on a result like that can be a hefty sized challenge.

On what he said to his players following the full-time whistle, Bielsa said: "Yes, of course it's tough. We lost two points. What I said about the result wasn't apt because of the opponent's resources, it's not because we did something wrong.

"The creative part of the game, we did very well. I think some parts of this match were great and maybe the best football we've played so far. And defensively the team wasn't bad.

"After in the matches, you have corners, set-pieces, throw-ins as well and those kind of actions are not difficult to create. If you force a corner it's because you are defending well, you don't allow the ball to come into your box.

"And throw-ins are born because part of the defensive part of our play, it's not because we threw the ball out. And we always kept the numerical superiority in defence. In every part of the pitch we had more defenders than the players of them, even in the third goal.

"There are particular situations that resolve the results in one game. And you have some results that you can't explain. Other results are more difficult to explain. We cannot explain this result. It wasn't possible we draw this match."

Failure to see out the game meant Leeds squandered the chance to remain top of the Championship table, with a win meaning that they would have remained top of the pile on goal-difference ahead of West Bromwich Albion.
