What Manchester United's Raphael Varane was doing on a plane with Liverpool FC star

Manchester United's Raphael Varane has been spotted returning to England on a plane with Liverpool's Joel Matip.

Some of United's players returned to Carrington to report for training on Monday morning as the international break begins to draw to an end and Varane was spotted flying back to England across the weekend on the same flight as centre-back Matip.

Matip was an unused substitute when Liverpool won 5-0 at Old Trafford last month while Varane was also sidelined for that game.

Varane sustained a groin injury on international duty with France in October and he returned from that problem in United's 3-0 win away at Tottenham, however, his poor luck with injuries would soon continue when he was forced off the pitch versus Atalanta.

The Frenchman was spotted returning to British shores on the same flight as Matip across the weekend, though and a Liverpool fan cheekily tweeted about it.

Varane is currently recovering from the hamstring injury that he sustained in Italy and he's set to be unavailable for up to a month.

That means Varane is set to miss games against Watford, Villarreal, Chelsea and perhaps even Arsenal at the start of December.
