What Manchester United player Bruno Fernandes did after Edinson Cavani equaliser vs Southampton

Manchester United's come-from-behind victory at Southampton showed the character that the squad possesses.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side were written off by most, with the team trailing 2-0 at the break, but an Edinson Cavani masterclass turned the game on its head.

The Uruguayan was introduced at the interval and teed up Bruno Fernandes, who halved the deficit.  Cavani then turned poacher as an instinctive header restored parity before another header sealed a memorable victory.

After the 33-year-old had nodded United level, most of his teammates whisked off to celebrate - but not Fernandes. Stood on the edge of the area when the goal went in, he was frantically urging his teammates to get back in position so that the game could kick off and United could search for a winner.

Speaking after the game to MUTV , Fernandes praised his teammate's perseverance.

He said: "When you have strikers who move a lot, and they give you the chance to play balls for them, it is really good. I think every striker we have gives us options. I don't want to go on personally about Edi or another player because it's not fair, but of course Edi has qualities, everyone knows that.

"For me, he's one of those strikers that can smell the goal as you saw twice. He smelt the goal, you need to have this feeling to score these two goals. As I said some weeks and some months ago, Edi will help us and he is helping already."

United fans reacted favourably to the Fernandes clip.

One wrote: "True captain" and another said "Give the man the band".

Another wrote: "Still not satisfied with the draw, calling everyone back to go for the win. This man is an example."
