What Manchester United did vs Arsenal that will have impressed new manager Ralf Rangnick

Former Liverpool and England centre-back Jamie Carragher believes the way Manchester United pressed and robbed Arsenal in possession high up the pitch will have "impressed" new interim manager Ralf Rangnick.

Rangnick, who addressed the media for the first time as United interim manager on Friday morning, watched Thursday evening's 3-2 victory over Arsenal from the stands, with Michael Carrick signing off his time at Old Trafford on a high.

Having fallen behind to a bizarre Emile Smith Rowe opener, United got themselves back on level terms just before half time through Bruno Fernandes' first Premier League goal since September.

Cristiano Ronaldo then swept United into a 2-1 lead just seven minutes into the start of the second half, converting Marcus Rashford's cutback, before Martin Odegaard brought Arsenal level just a few moments later.

However, United restored their lead 20 minutes from time when Ronaldo blasted home an emphatic penalty at the Stretford End, sealing a 3-2 triumph.

In what was a highly entertaining contest from start to finish, United, after a slow start, did impose themselves more and more on the Gunners as the contest wore on, regularly gaining possession in the final third and putting Mikel Arteta's side on the back-foot.

An improved level of pressing and intensity are likely to become regular themes under Rangnick, with the German very big on leading from the front and working tirelessly.

Although Rangnick was not in charge against Arsenal, Carragher believes the German will have been pleased with what he saw from his new squad.

Carragher said on Twitter: "Not sure how much involvement Rangnick has had tonight, if any, but Man Utd have won the ball off Arsenal a lot in the attacking third.

"Ralf will be impressed!"

Rangnick, who spoke both admirably and concisely at his Old Trafford unveiling on Friday, will take charge for the first time on Sunday against Crystal Palace.

The visit of Palace will see United going in search of a second successive Premier League win for the fist time since September and just their fourth home league win of the campaign.
