What Manchester United coaches said after Anthony Martial goal vs Man City

Manchester United's coaches were confident the team would score a second goal on the counter-attack in Sunday's derby, according to Owen Hargreaves.

United went 1-0 up through Anthony Martial on the half-hour mark as the Frenchman volleyed home from Bruno Fernandes' dinked pick-out.

It took United until the seventh minute of injury-time to wrap up the victory, with Scott McTominay steering home from 40 yards out after a mistake by the error-prone Ederson.

Speaking after the match, Hargreaves, who was at Old Trafford to perform media duties for Premier League Productions, claimed he overheard a conversation between United's coaches.

“I think they could just feel there was a second goal there,” Hargreaves said. “Some of the United coaches were behind me and they said, ‘We’re going to get a second one on the counter’.

“It just feels like United, as much as City dominated possession, it was United that were in complete control of the game, I think they had more chances and looked the more dangerous team.”

He added: “I haven’t seen a United team play with that intensity in such a long time. [At] Old Trafford the fans around me were bouncing. Bryan Robson was sat next to me he was jumping up all the time.

“It felt like Old Trafford from a few seasons ago.”
