What Man Utd target Bruno Fernandes was told in Sporting Lisbon transfer meeting

Manchester United and Totteham Hotspur are continuing in their pursuit of Sporting Lisbon star Bruno Fernandes.

United are looking to bolster their midfield options before the transfer window slams shut in six days time, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer keen on landing the Portugal international after landing £80million Harry Maguire.

But Spurs - frustrated in their pursuit of Giovani Lo Celso - have made a late swoop of their own.

The two Premier League rivals could find themselves locked in a tug-of-war for the 24-year-old who appeared to bid an emotional farewell to Sporting after their pre-season match with Valencia.

Still however, a move is yet to materialise.

A Bola claims that Tottenham have made three offers for the player, the latest standing at £40million plus £8million in bonuses - but Sporting are holding out for £63million.

However, Fernandes met with Sporting officials on Friday and come to what has been described as a 'gentleman's agreement' over a transfer with everybody keen to part on good terms.

Further claims have suggested that Fernandes and his agent have asked Sporting to lower their valuation, citing his loyalty to the club as a reason for doing so.

It's stated that president Federico Varandas assured Fernandes that the club has no intention of 'cutting his legs' and being unreasonable - but won't be giving him away on the cheap either.

The negotiations are set to go right down to the wire, with Sporting chiefs currently focusing on their clash with Benfica in the Super Cup on Sunday; Fernandes is expected to play.

The transfer window for Premier League clubs closes on Thursday, ahead of the kickoff next weekend.

Spurs host newly-promoted Aston Villa next Saturday, while United welcome Chelsea to Old Trafford next Sunday in the Premier League.
