What Man Utd have done vs Man City that could impact Tottenham and Liverpool matches

Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo was left out of their matchday squad to face Man City on Sunday afternoon due to injury.

The Manchester Evening News have reported that Uruguayan international and fellow frontman Edinson Cavani is also not part of the squad for the game at the Etihad Stadium.

It is currently unclear how serious Ronaldo's injury is but it could impact the Red Devils' upcoming matches against Tottenham Hotspur, which is scheduled to take place next weekend, and Liverpool the week after.

United and Spurs are currently locked in a battle, along with Arsenal and West Ham United, to qualify for a place in next season's UEFA Champions League.

The Red Devils currently sit fourth in the Premier League standings but if the Gunners defeat Watford on Sunday afternoon, they will leapfrog Ralf Rangnick's side into the Champions League spots despite playing two less league matches.

Comparatively, Spurs are five points behind Rangnick and Co, with two games in hand on their top-four rivals.

And former Tottenham defender William Gallas has urged Daniel Levy to back Lillywhites boss Antonio Conte this summer, even if they fail to land fourth-place this term.

Speaking to bet365,via The Sun, Gallas said: “I think Conte doesn’t have the right players. He doesn’t have the right players for the top four places. He needs more time to build his squad.

“He knows exactly which type of player he’ll need to sign for next season and the chairman needs to give him the budget and opportunity to get these players Conte wants in.

“Tottenham should have ambitions of the top four and in time, winning the league.

“Top players are expensive these days so they need to get a handle of their scouting network and bring in talent who can contribute without the weight of expectation on them.

“We’ve seen how massive fees can affect players like Harry Maguire.”
