What Man Utd fans are saying about Scott McTominay after Barcelona defeat

Manchester United were beaten 1-0 by Barcelona in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Wednesday.

The Red Devils failed to muster a single shot on goal at any point in the match as Ernesto Valverde's men dominated the Red Devils at Old Trafford.

Marcus Rashford had a poor game by his usual standards and was unable to make the most of the few opportunities that came his way.

Fred showed signs of quality against Lionel Messi and co. but failed to adequately look after his back four of Ashley Young, Luke Shaw, Victor Lindelof and Chris Smalling, who, played relatively well as a unit - particularly the latter.

Scott McTominay was thrown into the first team in place of the injured pairing of Nemanja Matic and Ander Herrera and many suspected he would be United's weak link.

But fans were delighted with his performance in the middle of a park packed with class - with many hailing him the club's best player on the night on social media.

"Scott McTominay was the best player on the pitch tonight. Brilliant performance," wrote one Manchester United fan on social media.
