Man City have been banned by UEFA from European competitions including the Champions League and Europa League for two seasons and it could impact Everton.
Pep Guardiola's men can still appeal the decision via the Court of Arbitration of Sport and it's expected they will do so.
But as it stands City are out of the mix for the next two seasons and that means the Premier League's fifth-placed team will be in line to take England's fourth Champions League spot should the City ban be implemented.
City have been suspended for two seasons and fined €30million and the significance of the decision could have a major impact on Everton.
Carlo Ancelotti's men were sat in seventh ahead of the weekend's games and five points behind fourth-placed Chelsea but now they might only have to make the top five to qualify for the Champions League.
Article 4.08 of UEFA's admission criteria and procedure states: "A club which is not admitted to the competition is replaced by the next best-placed club in the top domestic championship of the same association, provided the new club fulfils the admission criteria."
A lengthy appeals process could still mean that the ban is not enforced in time for next season, though.
